
John Dale is well-known in musical circles in the Lansing area and has
experience in virtually all areas associated with musical performance, as
producer, performer, and coordinator for a wide variety of musical
events. He is conductor/pianist for the Lansing Symphony Big Band,
leader of the John Dale Quintet, and co-leader of J & J Sounds.
John received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Bowling
Green State University and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from
Michigan State University. His professional affiliations include
memberships in Phi Mu Alpha and the honorary Pi Kappa Lambda music
fraternities. John recently retired from a 28 year career at Lansing
Community College where he served in a number of capacities, including
Program Director of Music, Director of Performing Arts, and most recently
as Director of Communication and College Events. While at LCC John had
positions at two Lansing churches, as Coordinator of Music at First
Presbyterian Church, and for 10 years as the Director of Music at Mount
Hope Presbyterian Church where his duties included directing the choir and
playing piano for services.
In addition to these duties John Dale has been very active in many community organizations, including the American Heart Association, Rotary Club of Lansing, the University Club of Michigan State University, and the Arts Council Center of Lansing, having served on the boards of directors of the latter two organizations. John Dale is married to Janine Novenske Smith, who is the Director of Choirs at University Lutheran Church in East Lansing and an adjunct instructor at LCC. John Dale and Janine have two children, Jennifer and Jonathan, both of whom are active in the performing arts. Concerning Plymouth, John Dale writes: "The reputation of a great church music program has always been associated with Plymouth. It would be my desire to continue that tradition and, in addition, provide stability and continuity to the talents which exist there."

Dr. Penny Draper has a private piano studio, and also teaches piano at Emanuel Lutheran School, in addition to tuning pianos. She has bachelor degrees (cum laude) from Michigan State University (MSU) in applied piano pedagogy, for which she was awarded a four-year piano scholarship by the MSU piano faculty, and choral education. She has taught private and public school choral music at all age levels, and since 1979 has directed The Renaissance Singers, a costumed troupe specializing in the performance of early music, and known locally for participation in the Elizabethan Musicall Feastes sponsored by the MSU Student Union. While pursuing an M.A. and Ph.D. in Musicology at MSU, she also studied Piano Technology, and held graduate assistantships in both fields, in addition to fulfilling a sabbatical appointment at The University of Michigan-Flint, where she taught music history and accompanied the Chorale.
Professional organizations include membership in the national music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota, as well as the honorary Pi Kappa Lambda. Penny was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2003 by the Capital Area Music Teachers Association, and coordinates their local Piano Student Achievement Testing Program. She is currently Vice President of the Michigan Music Teachers Association, and serves as the Coordinator of Performing Arts Students (a student club sponsored by Lansing Matinee Musicale and an affiliate of the Federation of Music Clubs).
Penny toured Europe as the Music Director for Suitcase Theatre, an auditioned touring troupe of local youth (ages 16-22), and also as an auditioned member of the Michigan School Vocal Association Touring Choir, comprised of Michigan School Choral directors. She is listed in several current editions of Marquis Who's Who, as well as in Who's Who Editions published by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England.
Penny and her husband, William, have two daughters, Paige and Josselin, who are currently pursuing graduate and undergraduate degrees, respectively. At Plymouth, Penny is now teaching the children of her former youth choir members, though no grandchildren of those members yet!

Staff Organist
Alayna Young is originally from Louisiana. Miss Young completed a Bachelor of Music in piano performance in 2003 at Northwester State University, later pursuing graduate work in piano and organ at Valparaiso University. She completed a Master of Music in organ performance as a student of Dr. Karl Schrock, from Western Michigan University in 2010.
A regular performer in concerts and performances in the area, she has been the recipient of several scholarships and awards. Miss Young brings a background as an organist and music director in several churches beginning in 2000visit
